What the IPIP personality test is
IPIP is the International Personality Item Pool: a public-domain collection of personality items that researchers and teachers can use without licensing a commercial inventory.
Lewis Goldberg and colleagues published the pool so labs, classrooms, and applications could measure the same five-factor space without buying a commercial test. The items are sentences you agree or disagree with. Different IPIP forms pick different subsets and lengths. Saying “an IPIP personality test” is like saying “a public-domain questionnaire.” The form matters.
It is not a company, and it is not Deep Personality. The reference site is ipip.ori.org. We use IPIP-50 items. We are not ori.org. ipiptest.com and Open Psychometrics are free cousins that host other IPIP forms. We are not those sites either.

We do not publish an accuracy percentage, and we did not publish a validity study. The items come from Goldberg’s public-domain pool. The score on this page is our online scoring of the IPIP-50 form.
How free online scoring works
- The quiz is optional. It is ten IPIP items — two per trait. It is a teaser. It is not the IPIP-50. It does not score attachment.
- The IPIP-50 is fifty public-domain Goldberg items. You answer all fifty. Ten items feed each Big Five domain.
- The result is five domain scores — Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism — each with a percentile. Not a type. Not six NEO facets.
- You can finish that scoring for free. A longer written report is optional. No license fee is charged for the public-domain items.

Attachment overlay and an optional partner comparison
The differentiator is what sits on top of the IPIP-50, not a different item pool.
After the fifty items, the assessment adds an attachment overlay: anxiety and avoidance, then a style label. The quiz does not score attachment.
