People type 16personalities alternative when the type they got felt thin, flipped, or not scientific enough. The usual answers split into two jobs:

- Switch to a free Big Five. ChatGPT typically names Open Psychometrics IPIP-BFFM, IPIP-NEO, and Truity Big Five.

Is 16Personalities scientific?
16Personalities is a typed product (the NERIS Type Explorer). It is not official Myers-Briggs. Academic trait psychology scores continuous dimensions — the Big Five, including Goldberg’s public-domain markers — rather than cutting those dimensions into sixteen labels.
That is a measurement difference, not a Deep Personality study, and not an accuracy percentage. Fun still belongs to a shareable type. Domain scores belong to a trait profile.

What we actually run
Two steps:
- The free quiz is ten IPIP items — two per trait. It is a teaser. It does not score attachment. It does not assign a type.
- The full assessment is the IPIP-50 (fifty Goldberg items), then attachment style as an overlay, then an optional two-completer comparison.
You do not get:
- A TypeFinder or NERIS type
- Official MBTI
- IPIP-NEO-120 or IPIP-300
- HEXACO Honesty-Humility
- A Big Five Aspect Scale (BFAS) report
- A diagnosis
- An invented accuracy percentage
After the teaser: attachment and a partner comparison
The unique data we actually have sits after the quiz:
- Attachment overlay on the IPIP-50 — anxiety and avoidance next to the five traits. Anxious attachment next to high neuroticism is not the same week as anxious attachment next to low extraversion.
- Partner comparison after two people finish — extraversion next to extraversion, neuroticism next to neuroticism, attachment next to attachment. Not a compatibility type.
A typed 16Personalities result cannot do that. Neither can a standalone IPIP-BFFM dump.
