About Deep Personality

The most comprehensive personality assessment available online

Deep Personality measures 28 personality dimensions using 18 validated psychological instruments. The assessment takes about 45 minutes to complete and produces a 10,000+ word personality profile that covers your cognitive patterns, emotional tendencies, interpersonal style, and relationship dynamics.

What we measure

Most online personality tests give you a four-letter code or a single score and call it a day. Deep Personality goes deeper. We measure the full Big Five personality traits and their 30 facets, plus clinical screening instruments for anxiety, depression, and stress. When you take the assessment with a partner, we generate a side-by-side comparison that shows exactly where your personalities align and where they create friction.

Our methodology

Every instrument we use has been validated through peer-reviewed research. We don't invent our own scales or rely on pop psychology frameworks. The science comes first.

Validated instruments used

  1. IPIP-NEO (Big Five personality traits and 30 facets)
  2. PHQ-9 (Depression screening — Kroenke et al., 2001)
  3. GAD-7 (Anxiety screening — Spitzer et al., 2006)
  4. PSS-10 (Perceived Stress Scale)
  5. Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale
  6. ECR-R (Attachment style — Brennan, Clark & Shaver, 1998)
  7. Brief COPE (Coping strategies)
  8. Grit Scale (Perseverance and passion)
  9. MAAS (Mindful Attention Awareness Scale)
  10. LOT-R (Life Orientation Test — optimism/pessimism)
  11. Need for Cognition Scale
  12. Empathy Quotient (Short form)
  13. Emotional Intelligence Scale
  14. Locus of Control Scale
  15. Distress Tolerance Scale
  16. Perfectionism Scale
  17. Social Desirability Scale (response validity)
  18. Cognitive Reflection Test

How it works

  1. Take the assessment. Answer questions across all 18 instruments. It takes about 45 minutes. There are no trick questions — just honest self-report items drawn from validated psychological measures.
  2. Get your profile. We generate a detailed personality report covering your Big Five traits, clinical screenings, cognitive style, emotional patterns, and interpersonal tendencies. The report is written in plain language, not academic jargon.
  3. Compare with a partner (optional). When both partners complete the assessment, we generate a couples comparison that highlights trait gaps, predicts common friction points, and explains why you keep having the same arguments.

Who uses Deep Personality

Over 8,500 people have taken the assessment. Most come for one of three reasons: they want to understand themselves more deeply than a quick online quiz allows, they want to understand relationship dynamics with a partner, or they were referred by a therapist or coach who uses personality data in their practice.

We are not a replacement for therapy or clinical diagnosis. The PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are screening instruments, not diagnostic tools. If your results suggest clinical levels of depression or anxiety, we recommend connecting with a qualified mental health professional.

Why we built this

Personality science has produced genuinely useful frameworks for understanding human behavior. The problem is that most of it stays locked in academic journals. The personality content that reaches most people online is oversimplified, unvalidated, or both.

Deep Personality exists to bridge that gap. Real instruments. Real science. Results you can actually use to understand yourself and your relationships.
