An OCEAN personality test scores the five Big Five traits as continuous spectra. Each letter is a position, not a box. It is a trait inventory, not a 16-type letter quiz.

OCEAN / the Big Five reports five continuous trait scores. MBTI assigns a four-letter type.
People near a cutoff can look like a different type on a retest without their traits moving much. A percentile can move a little without renaming you. That split, at page length, is Big Five vs MBTI.

The instrument is IPIP-50, not IPIP-NEO-120
IPIP is the International Personality Item Pool: public-domain personality statements published by Lewis Goldberg and colleagues. Labs and applications can use the items without licensing a commercial inventory. The reference site is ipip.ori.org. We use public-domain Goldberg IPIP items. We are not ori.org.
IPIP-50 is the form Deep Personality uses for the full OCEAN score:
- Fifty public-domain Goldberg items
- Ten items per domain
- Five domain scores — one for each OCEAN letter
- A percentile, not a type
- Not six NEO-style facet scores
That is the honest length. The full OCEAN measure on this site is fifty items. The free quiz before it is ten IPIP items. We do not publish a minute count for those fifty items.
IPIP-NEO-120 is 120 items and can report facets inside the five domains. IPIP-NEO-300 is the long facet form. bigfive-test.com hosts a 120-item IPIP-NEO. We do not run IPIP-NEO, IPIP-NEO-120, IPIP-NEO-300, IPIP-300, or NEO-PI-R. If the job is facets, stay with that longer form. The facet writeup is IPIP-NEO. The fifty-item form is IPIP-50.
