A published 12-item short form, the ECR-12 (Lafontaine and colleagues, 2016), also scores anxiety and avoidance. It is a shorter Experiences in Close Relationships form, not a four-style label and not this product.
What each one is for
Attachment Project names a type. The border is the product: you are anxious, or you are not. That is enough when the only question tonight is “which attachment type am I?” You do not owe anyone a longer test. Their quiz is not an IPIP-50 domain score and not a two-person comparison report.
The ECR-R answers “how high is anxiety, how high is avoidance?” You can sit near the middle. A retest can move a few points without renaming you. The longer note on that instrument is best attachment style test.
The ECR-RS (Fraley, Heffernan, Vicary, and Brumbaugh, 2011) asks the same two-dimension question inside one relationship. Nine items are repeated for mother, father, romantic partner, and friend. Fraley’s lab hosts those items. Use it when the question is this parent, this partner, or this friend — not a general style and not a Big Five profile.
The Relationship Questionnaire (Bartholomew and Horowitz, 1991) is a short self-rating. You read four style paragraphs and say how well each one fits. It is a prototype rating, not a 36-item inventory.

Anxious attachment is the high-anxiety, low-avoidance region. Avoidant attachment is the low-anxiety, high-avoidance region. The same anxious map next to high neuroticism is a different week from the same map next to low extraversion. A type alone cannot show that. None of this makes Attachment Project fake. It makes it a different instrument.
