What HEXACO is
HEXACO is a six-factor model of personality. The name is the six domains:
- Honesty-Humility
- Emotionality
- Extraversion (eXtraversion)
- Agreeableness
- Conscientiousness
- Openness
A common short form, the HEXACO-60, is sixty items — ten per factor (Ashton & Lee, 2009). The official long form is HEXACO-PI-R.
Honesty-Humility is the extra factor. It is about sincerity, fairness, greed-avoidance, and modesty. The Big Five / IPIP-50 does not score Honesty-Humility as its own domain. That is a model difference, not a Deep Personality study.
The other five names look like Big Five labels. Two of them are carved differently: HEXACO Emotionality overlaps Neuroticism on fear and anxiety and moves anger onto Agreeableness; HEXACO Agreeableness therefore absorbs irritability that Big Five Agreeableness does not own. Extraversion, Conscientiousness, and Openness line up more closely.
HEXACO is still a spectrum. You get six continuous scores, not a type.
Why someone searching HEXACO may still want a scored Big Five
Most trait research and teaching still uses five domains. If you want a scored inventory you can take here — five IPIP-50 percentiles, then attachment, then an optional two-completer comparison — that path is this product.
A HEXACO search is often a proxy for “give me a scientific trait test, not a type.” The most accurate personality test page already treats “accurate” as reliability plus validity, not a magic percentage. HEXACO is one strong answer to that query. A scored Big Five is another. They are different jobs.
Stay on HEXACO when the sixth factor is the point. Take IPIP-50 here when five domains plus attachment (and, if someone else finishes, a side-by-side) is the point.
